Requirements to Become a Psychologist in Alberta
The Mandate of the College of Alberta Psychologists (CAP) is to serve the interests of the public and guide the profession of psychology. Additionally, CAP provides information on its legislation, the processes of registration, Code of Ethics, Standards of Practice, Professional Guidelines for Psychologists and a member’s registry that are available on their officail website, along with a variety of additional information. Below are steps that one should follow in order to become a Provisional Psychologist and later on a registered Psychologist in the province of Alberta.
Step 1- Registration as a Provisional Psychologist:

- Examination for Professional Practice (EPPP)
- Oral Exam Information & Application
Step 2- In Alberta, at this time, a person may be registered as a Psychologist if he or she has:
- Completed a Master’s degree in Psychology from an approved Psychology program
- Completed 1600 hours of supervised practice as Provisional Psychologist
- Passed oral and written examinations administered by the College of Alberta Psychologists
