Future Directions
There are so many and exciting things that I am looking forward to discover in the counselling field and I am eagerly looking forward to engage in whatever interesting opportunity may cross my professional path.
Interprofessional and intraprofessional collaboration
Interprofessional and intraprofessional collaboration represent another goal in my professional development. I have learned and seen that collaboration can be impeded by a number of barriers, including codes of ethics, variations in standards, reluctance to cede power, and tensions or misunderstandings between professional groups. My knowledge of existing community supports, cultural resources and potential partner agencies, is somewhat complex, but far from being complete. For many years now, I have been in touch with professionals not only from my field, but also other related fields with the precise scope of building professional networks and pursuing similar goals. It is my strong belief that articulating and sharing my experiences with other practitioners can enhance the multicultural competence of the profession as a whole.
Further Training
I am planning to further my knowledge in the counselling field through workplace training, self-study and continuing education programs. I plan to attend in-service workshops that emphasize the high demands of counseling services to multicultural clients. I am extremely interested in workshops that encompass topics focusing on aboriginals, gays and lesbians and I have a genuine interest in topics pertaining to international students, foreign workers, and refugees. I am also interested in topics such as cultural differences, acculturation, socio-economic status related to health issues, information on settlement and integration, all these with the scope of heightening my awareness of the need for early prevention and intervention as well as the importance of skill management development.
